Key West local artist Bill Blue played to a packed house at the famous Green Parrot Bar on March 12th to premier his new Blues album, The King of Crazy Town.

Bill Blue follows up his 2013 comeback album ‘Mojolation’ with his new Blues album ‘The King Of Crazy Town’

Bill an original back porch Blues musician learnt his chops on the road playing guitar with Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup. Amongst the hundreds of music gigs they played together, they opened for Bonnie Raitt on her first ever national tour

After Arthur died in 1974, Bill went out on his own and for a decade toured extensively sharing the stage with BB King, ZZ Top, The Allman Brothers, Albert King, Johnny WInters, Hank Williams Jr and countless others at Blues festivals across the USA.  He was signed to Adelphi Records and toured extensively in Scandinavia too.

Tired of ‘the road’ in the 80s, Bill settled in Key West where he recorded ‘Mojolation’ in 2013 after a 25 year recording hiatus with British record producer Ian Shaw who discovered Blue when he moved to the Florida Keys.

Bill’s new Key West recorded Blues album ‘The King Of Crazy Town’ features the top musicians of the local music scene backing him, plus ace guitarist Matt Backer, an American living in London, England whose credits include Joe Cocker, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Elton John, Julian Lennon and Aimee Mann amongst many others.  Horns were recorded in New York with the Funky In The Middle Horns.

Standout tracks on the record include ‘Carolina Time’, a tribute to Bill’s home state, the title track ‘The King Of Crazy Town’ which depicts a night out in Key West, ‘Indianola’ which is a tribute to BB King who encouraged Bill to go out on his own when Crudup passed and with whom Bill shared the stage many times.  ‘I Want It All’ is the sole cover song and is written by Eddie Hinton, ‘Hunker Down’ is a live Hurricane season favourite in Bill’s stage show and ‘You Ain’t Fun Anymore’ a duet with Matt Backer inspired by a throw away comment made by Bill’s wife Bev.

The Key West local artist’s new record crackles with energy and edgy guitars, most of which were recorded live in one or two takes with the full band in the studio.  Over the top of the music Bill’s authentic and gritty vocal interprets the songs.

This record is a great Blues performance by one of the last original road warriors.
